Originating from 14th-century Gothic fortifications under Casimir the Great and expanded with Renaissance grandeur by Sigismund I the Old in the 16th century via Italian architects like Francesco Fiorentino and Bartolomeo Berrecci, it features opulent chambers, arcaded courtyards, and the iconic 14th-century Wawel Cathedral with royal tombs.
