Zabytkowy zamek w Słupsku
Słupsk, Poland, Poland
Zabytkowy zamek w Słupsku, known as Słupsk Castle or the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle, is a historic fortress in Słupsk, northern Poland, originally built in 1507 by Duke Bogislaw X in Gothic style as a modest stronghold by the Słupia River.
It was extensively rebuilt between 1580 and 1588 under Duke John Frederick into a grand Renaissance palace with added storeys, large windows, a polygonal tower featuring an arcaded loggia, rusticated corners, and buttresses, using brick and erratic boulders on oak piles for stability.
Serving as a ducal residence until the 17th century, it later became a warehouse and prison under German rule, leading to decay, but was restored post-World War II and now houses the Museum of Central Pomerania, showcasing regional history and art.
