Zamek Rabsztyn
Rabsztyn, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland, Poland
Zamek Rabsztyn in Rabsztyn, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland, is a Gothic castle ruin from the late 13th century, likely founded by the Toporczyk knights or King Władysław Łokietek as a border stronghold guarding trade routes from Kraków to Wrocław on rocky terrain near Olkusz.
It features an upper castle with a main tower, middle bailey, and 16th-17th century lower Renaissance expansions including a two-winged palace with 40 rooms, cloisters, and a moat-bridged gatehouse under owners like Spytko of Melsztyn, Tęczyński, Boner, and Myszkowski families.
Destroyed during the Swedish Deluge and further dismantled by 19th-century treasure hunters, it was reconstructed since 2009 and now attracts tourists along the Eagles' Nests Trail with preserved walls, tower remnants, and night illumination.
