Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country located in Southeastern Europe, in the Balkans, bordered by Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. The capital is Sarajevo. The nation is home to three main ethnic groups: Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats, with Islam, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Roman Catholicism as the primary religions.
The country’s political structure is highly decentralized, consisting of two autonomous entities—the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska—and the Brčko District. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s recent history is shaped by the 1992–95 war following the breakup of Yugoslavia, which resulted in over 100,000 deaths and large-scale displacement.
The country has since rebuilt much of its economy and infrastructure and aspires to join the European Union and NATO, though ethnic and political tensions persist.
