Malawi
Malawi is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa, bordered by Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambique. Its capital is Lilongwe, while other major cities include Blantyre and Mzuzu. The country stretches along the western side of Lake Malawi, one of Africa’s largest lakes. Most of Malawi’s population are Bantu-speaking Africans, and the official languages are English and Chewa.
Malawi’s economy primarily depends on agriculture, particularly subsistence farming and cash crops such as tobacco, tea, and sugarcane. After many centuries as home to various ethnic groups, the population is largely Christian, with Islam also present. Malawi was formerly known as Nyasaland under British colonial rule and gained independence in 1964.
