Adlerbogen
Dannenfels, Germany, Germany
Adlerbogen is a striking steel triumphal arch perched on the 545-meter-high Moltkefelsen cliff on the eastern flank of Donnersberg mountain near Dannenfels in Germany's Donnersbergkreis district, Rhineland-Palatinate.
Erected in 1880 by the Pfälzischer Verschönerungsverein to honor Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke for their roles in German unification and securing Palatinate borders after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, the 12.5-meter span between rock spires features a cast-iron imperial eagle atop its half-circle design originally intended for bridge construction.
Destroyed by American forces in World War II and meticulously restored in 2016, it now serves as a scenic viewpoint and cultural monument along forested trails, symbolizing imperial-era engineering and early tourism development.
