Ahu Tongariki is the largest ceremonial platform on Easter Island (Rapa Nui) and one of the island’s most iconic archaeological sites. It features fifteen massive moai statues standing in a row, making it the largest collection of restored moai on a single platform. Built by the ancient Rapa Nui people, the site was an important ceremonial and social center. The statues were toppled during periods of conflict and later displaced by the powerful 1960 tsunami generated by the Great Chilean Earthquake, but they were carefully restored in the 1990s through an international conservation effort. Located near Rano Raraku, the quarry where most moai were carved, Ahu Tongariki is famous for its dramatic coastal setting and spectacular sunrises. Today, it stands as a powerful symbol of the cultural heritage, engineering skill, and resilience of the Rapa Nui civilization.
