The Alter Botanischer Garten in Tübingen, Germany, dates back to 1535 when medicinal plants were grown by Leonhart Fuchs near the Nonnenhaus.

Officially established as a horticultural garden in the 1660s under Duke Eberhard III, it developed over centuries, with a new garden created between 1805 and 1809. It flourished through the 19th century, featuring multiple greenhouses, a palm house, and a rich collection of over 5,000 species at its peak. The garden was reorganized several times to follow modern botanical classification systems.

In 1969, the university opened a newer botanical garden, and the old garden was converted into a municipal park. Today, it serves as a green space with historic trees and monuments, reflecting its long scientific and cultural heritage while being freely accessible to the public.
