Alter Wildenstein is the "Old Wildenstein," referring to the ruins of a 12th-13th century medieval castle in Leibertingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, perched dramatically on rocky spurs above the Danube with sheer cliffs providing natural defense.

Built by the Lords of Wildenstein as part of a chain of four fortresses to control river trade routes, it passed through noble families like the Justingens, Ramsbergs, and Fürstenbergs, who fortified it into an early modern stronghold during conflicts including the Thirty Years' War, before decline set in from fires, lightning, and abandonment by the 18th century.

Today, the atmospheric ruins—complete with remnants of walls, towers, and a chapel—serve as a youth hostel and hiking destination, evoking its haunted reputation amid the Swabian Alps landscape.
