Anebos Castle
Germany, Germany
Anebos Castle is a medieval rock castle ruin perched at 480 meters on a sandstone ridge in the Palatinate Forest south of Annweiler am Trifels, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, part of the Trifels group alongside Trifels and Scharfenberg castles.
Built in the early 12th century as the ancestral seat of the lords of Anebos—high-ranking ministeriales who served Holy Roman Emperors like Henry VI, with Marshal Eberhard accompanying his 1194 Italian campaign—it was peacefully abandoned by the 14th century without signs of destruction, as revealed by excavations since 2000.
Today, sparse wall remnants, a cistern (once mistaken for a cellar), and stonemasonry traces mark the site, accessible via hiking trails for panoramic views amid the forested hills.
