Arco di Castel Trivellin
Italy, Italy
Arco di Castel Trivellin is a medieval stone arch in the town of Lendinara, in Italy’s Veneto region.
It is one of the few surviving remains of Castel Trivellin, a defensive complex of walls, towers, and fortifications that once protected the town and controlled access along the nearby Adigetto waterway. Built between the late 14th and early 15th centuries, the pointed arch originally functioned as an entrance gate to the fortified settlement and stood near a watchtower that has since disappeared.
The structure formed part of the town’s defensive perimeter and was designed to help protect important access points. The name “Trivellin” is believed to derive from the word “rivellino,” a military outwork used to defend gates, bridges, and larger fortifications. Although most of the original fortress no longer exists, the arch remains a visible reminder of Lendinara’s medieval past.
