Arechi Castle is a medieval fortress that stands on Monte Bonadies above the city of Salerno, offering spectacular views of the Gulf of Salerno and the surrounding coastline.

Its origins date back to the Byzantine period, but it was greatly expanded and fortified in the late 8th century by the Lombard prince Arechi II, from whom the castle takes its name. The castle played a crucial defensive role for centuries and was considered nearly impregnable thanks to its strong walls, towers, and strategic hilltop location.

It later served Lombard and Norman rulers before gradually losing its military importance and eventually falling into decline. Today, Arechi Castle is one of Salerno’s most famous landmarks. Visitors can explore its restored structures, archaeological museum, and surrounding nature trails while enjoying some of the finest panoramic views in southern Italy.
