Audunborg
Ålhus, Norway, Norway
Audunborg was a stone castle built by Norwegian nobleman Audun Hugleiksson between 1276 and 1286 on his estate near the village of Ålhus on the shores of Jølstravatn lake in Sunnfjord, Norway. The rectangular fortress, likely constructed by English craftsmen from Bergen, measured 22 by 13 meters with three stories including storage, living quarters, and a feast hall, surrounded by water on three sides for defense along with possible moats or walls. One of only two known private stone castles in medieval Norway alongside Isegran, it supported Audun's hird retinue but saw little personal use due to his travels, leaving ruins today marked by a 1960 memorial featuring his seal.
