Austrått, located in Ørland municipality, Trøndelag, Norway, is renowned for Austråttborgen, one of the country's oldest and most significant medieval manors dating back over a thousand years as a chieftain's seat. Home to notable figures like Lady Inger of Austrått (Inger Ottesdatter) in the 16th century—who influenced the Reformation—and completed in its Renaissance form around 1656 by Chancellor Ove Bjelke, the fortified manor with main hall, chapel, and courtyard walls burned in 1916 before state restoration from the 1920s to 1961. Now a national cultural heritage site managed by Trondheim's Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum, it offers summer tours revealing Viking-era ties, noble lineages, and nearby WWII Austrått Fort built by Germans in 1943 to guard Trondheimsfjorden.
