Baía dos Tigres in Angola’s Namibe Province is a remote and dramatic coastal area where the Namib Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean.

It is best known for Ilha dos Tigres and the abandoned fishing settlement of São Martinho dos Tigres, which became a ghost town after a powerful storm in 1962 cut the area off from the mainland and disrupted its freshwater supply. Today, the bay is admired for its stark desert scenery, windswept dunes, rich marine environment, and sense of isolation, making it one of Angola’s most unique and fascinating natural and historical destinations.
