Bala Hisar Fort in Peshawar, Pakistan, is an ancient fortress with a history dating back to at least the 7th century, first mentioned by the Chinese traveler Xuanzang.

It was originally built as a royal residence and defensive stronghold, gaining prominence during the Durrani Empire when Ahmad Shah Durrani made it his royal residence in 1747. The fort's strategic location on a high mound provides commanding views of Peshawar and the surrounding valley. Over centuries, the fort was occupied by various powers including the Mughals, Afghans, Sikhs, and the British, each contributing to its reconstruction and expansion.

It witnessed significant military and political events, such as the Battle of Peshawar, before becoming the headquarters of Pakistan's Frontier Corps after independence. The fort features multiple layers of walls, gates, military buildings, and remnants of royal quarters, reflecting its historical importance as both a military base and a seat of governance in the region
