Bampour Castle
Bampur, Iran
Bampour Castle, located near the city of Bampur in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province, is an ancient military fortress with origins tracing back to the Sasanian Empire and possibly earlier periods.
Built mainly from local materials like mud bricks, it is situated on an artificial hill about 80 meters high, strategically positioned near a river and historical trade routes. The castle was an important center of governance and defense for the region, including Kerman and Baluchistan, and was also used during the Seljuk period.
Its design includes two sections with differing heights and a lower courtyard surrounded by several towers. Although the castle has suffered damage due to harsh climatic conditions and the passage of time, it remains a significant historical and archaeological site, registered as a national heritage monument.
Bampour Castle reflects the rich history and strategic importance of its location for centuries.
