Barockschloss Delitzsch
Delitzsch, Germany, Germany
Barockschloss Delitzsch is a pastel-colored Baroque palace in Delitzsch, Saxony, Germany, originally built as a medieval moated castle in the late 14th century by Margrave Wilhelm I of Meissen, with its tower still preserved today.
From 1540, it was transformed into a Renaissance residence for traveling Saxon rulers, later becoming a widow's seat for duchesses like Christiane of Saxe-Merseburg in the 17th century, when it gained its French-style Baroque makeover, opulent interiors, and a small pleasure garden laid out in 1692-93.
After serving as a women's prison from 1860 to 1926, the city acquired it, turning it into a museum showcasing princely chambers, local history exhibits, a registry office, music school, and a 50-meter observation tower offering views of the town and beyond, all set amid scenic lakes.
