Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia is the oldest surviving botanic garden in the United States, established in 1728 by John Bartram, a self-taught botanist and explorer. Originally a family farm in Kingsessing Township, it became a renowned center for plant collection and exchange, with Bartram supplying North American seeds and plants internationally. John Bartram's sons expanded the garden and nursery, contributing significantly to early American botany.

After financial struggles in the 19th century, industrialist Andrew Eastwick purchased the property to preserve it. The city of Philadelphia acquired it as a public park in 1891, and the John Bartram Association was founded in 1893 to maintain and interpret the garden.

Today, the garden features restored historical landscapes, including a tidal wetland and community farm, while serving as an educational and cultural resource reflecting Bartram’s legacy in botanical science and plant conservation. It is a National Historic Landmark visited by thousands annually.
