Bason Botanic Gardens
Whanganui, New Zealand
Bason Botanic Gardens in Whanganui, New Zealand, was gifted by Stanley and Blanche Bason in 1966 as a 25-hectare farm to create a botanical reserve focused on both scientific study and enjoyment. Despite initial opposition from some local groups, the land was developed into a diverse garden with themed areas including native bush, conifer arboretum, subtropical gardens, and a conservatory housing tropical plants and orchids.
The garden features pathways, lakes, terraces, and the historic Bason Homestead, offering serene natural beauty all year round with free public access. It is recognized as a Garden of Significance and remains a community hub for education, conservation, and recreation, fostering connection with nature and local flora.
