The castle has a square layout typical of Lombard castles, surrounded by a wide moat, and features a portion of the original 14th-century brick facade with battlements and a drawbridge. Over the centuries, the castle underwent renovations, including an 18th-century Neoclassical remodeling of the west wing, which added grand noble rooms, frescoed ballrooms, and elegant gardens designed by renowned architects like Francesco Croce and Leopoldo Pollack.

Historically, it served as both a hunting lodge and a noble residence, hosting festive events and notable figures such as poets and intellectuals. Today, parts of the castle are used for cultural events and fairs, while the medieval architecture and extensive gardens stand as enduring symbols of Lombardy's rich heritage.
