Bevern Castle
Bevern, Germany, Germany
Bevern Castle is a symmetrical four‑winged Weser‑Renaissance palace in the small village of Bevern in the Holzminden district of Lower Saxony, Germany.
It was built between 1603 and 1612 by Statius von Münchhausen on the site of an older manor, forming a harmonious courtyard building with a surrounding moat, two bridges, and a planned layout that reflects late Renaissance ideals of order and beauty.
The castle later passed to the Welf dukes of Brunswick‑Wolfenbüttel, becoming a residence and court seat for the Bevern line of the dynasty, and experienced a cultural heyday in the 17th and 18th centuries with a small court theater and princely court life.
Today Schloss Bevern functions as a cultural and event venue with guided tours, changing exhibitions on regional history and the castle’s development, concerts in the restored chapel, and seasonal light‑and‑sound shows that bring its 400‑year story into the open air.
