Biedenkopf Castle
Biedenkopf, Germany, Germany
Biedenkopf Castle, also known as Landgrafenschloss Biedenkopf or Schloss Biedenkopf, is a medieval hilltop fortress in the town of Biedenkopf in central Hesse, Germany, sitting on the 386‑meter‑high Schlossberg above the old town and the Lahn‑Dill region.
It was first established in the late 12th century and later became a key border stronghold for the Thuringian and Hessian landgraves before being rebuilt and expanded in the mid‑15th century into a stately landgrave’s castle with a prominent keep, palas, and defensive walls.
Today the castle remains one of the best‑preserved stone castles in the area, serving as a landmark and housing the Hinterland Museum with local history exhibits, while the surrounding grounds and tower walk offer panoramic views over Biedenkopf and the nearby low mountain landscape.
