Big Cay Bokel
Belize, Belize
Big Cay Bokel, often called Caye Bokel, is a small, low‑lying island at the southern tip of the Turneffe Atoll in the Caribbean Sea, about 40–50 km off the coast of Belize.
It belongs to the Belize Barrier Reef system and is surrounded by shallow turquoise water, mangroves, and continuous coral‑reef ledges, creating calm lagoons on one side and direct reef access for diving and fishing just offshore. The island is elongated and very flat, with the highest point still only a few meters above sea level, and it is mostly undeveloped, covered in coconut palms and natural forest, with only a small airstrip and a few scattered structures apart from privately owned residential or resort‑style parcels.
Because of its location inside the Turneffe Atoll protected area, the waters around Big Cay Bokel support abundant marine life, making it attractive for snorkeling, diving, and eco‑oriented island tourism.
