Mauger Cay

Belize, Belize

Mauger Cay, also known as Mauger Caye, is a small, low‑lying island in the Turneffe Atoll off the eastern coast of Belize, about 19–30 kilometers east of Belize City in the Caribbean Sea. It is the most northerly caye in the Turneffe Cays archipelago and lies within the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, a UNESCO‑recognized marine area famous for healthy coral reefs and rich marine life. The caye is known for its white‑sand beaches, turquoise waters, and an active lighthouse at its southern end, which guides ships through the atoll’s waters and can be reached by boat from the mainland. The surrounding reefs make Mauger Caye a popular spot for diving and fishing, while the caye itself is largely undeveloped and used mainly for navigation and maritime tourism rather than large‑scale habitation.
