Binz
Rügen, Germany, Germany
Binz is the largest and most exclusive seaside resort on Rügen, Germany’s largest island, located on the southeast coast in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern along the beautiful bathing bay of Prorer Wiek.
The town is famous for its 7 kilometers of fine, wide, white sandy beach, a 3–4 kilometer tree-lined beach promenade, and beautifully preserved seaside resort architecture dating back to around 1900, including elegant villas with balconies, turrets, and bay windows.
Binz’s most iconic landmarks are the grand Kurhaus (a spa building) on the pier and the 1994 rebuilt 380-meter-long pier itself, which serves as a hub for excursion boats heading to chalk cliffs and other Baltic resorts. Recognized as a state-approved health resort thanks to its mild climate with nearly 2000 hours of sunshine yearly and ozone-rich sea air, Binz offers spa facilities, thermal brine baths, wellness centers, tennis courts, and a nearby golf course.
The town combines beach relaxation with easy access to natural attractions like the Granitz Forest, the nearby Jagdschloss Granitz hunting lodge, Schmachter Lake, and Jasmund National Park with its famous white chalk cliffs, while also featuring boutiques, art galleries, cafes, and the historic narrow-gauge railway “Rasender Roland”.
