Biosphäre Potsdam
Potsdam, Germany, Germany
The Biosphäre Potsdam is an indoor tropical botanical garden located in Volkspark Potsdam, a park between Sanssouci Park and Neuer Garten at Georg-Hermann-Allee 99, Potsdam, Germany.
Covering 7,000 square meters, this tropical rainforest greenhouse was erected for the 2001 Federal Garden Show (BUGA) and opened as a tropical garden on September 14, 2002, after extensive renovation. The garden contains approximately 20,000 tropical plants representing about 350 species, including orchids, epiphytes, and trees up to 14 meters tall, along with a palm grove and mangrove swamp.
Visitors can explore jungle pathways leading to a mangrove swamp, tropical crops, a waterfall, and two lakes while observing tropical wildlife including iguanas, snakes, spiders, frogs, geckos, pheasants, and around 30 butterfly species in a free-flying butterfly house. Unlike traditional botanical gardens, Biosphäre Potsdam functions as a nature experience world featuring changing special themes, guided tours, workshops, children's and family programs.
A Tropical Brunch buffet, with temperatures maintained between 23 and 28°C to recreate the humid tropical environment where exotic birds fly freely among palms and jungle streams. The facility is open daily year-round, with adults paying €18.00 for admission, and offers an ever-changing program of exhibitions and events, particularly for children.
