Böchinger Schloss
Böchingen, Germany, Germany
Böchinger Schloss in Böchingen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, occupies the site of a medieval castle built by the Lords of Böchingen around 1206, destroyed in the 1525 Peasants' War and rebuilt before suffering further devastation in the Thirty Years' War.
Reconstructed as a simple Baroque residence by the late 17th century—with features like a polygonal roof, broad external staircase, and column-framed entrance—it later passed to Elector Karl Theodor, who enfeoffed Freiherr von Reibold with it and the village in 1767.
Post-World War II, it housed a vintners' cooperative and became a sparkling wine cellar in 1961 under Sektkellerei Schloss Wachenheim until production ceased in 2008; today, this protected cultural monument remains privately owned and closed to visitors.
