Boosenburg
Germany, Germany
Boosenburg in Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany, is a medieval lowland castle known as the Oberburg or upper castle, built around the late 12th century as the family seat of Lord Fuchs of Rüdesheim with a square structure, high double-stepped bergfried tower, rampart, and moat.
It passed to the Brömser family in 1407 and then the Boos von Waldeck nobles from 1474 to 1830, who gave it its name, before partial demolition in 1836 left only the heightened Gothic Revival tower amid vineyards.
Today, the site features a 19th-century Gothic Revival villa, vaulted wine cellar in the former moat, and serves as a scenic landmark near the Rhine with the Boos family coat of arms still displayed.
