Botanical Garden of KIT
Karlsruhe, Germany, Germany
The Botanical Garden of KIT (Botanischer Garten der Universität Karlsruhe) is a municipal botanical garden maintained by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), located at Am Fasanengarten 2 in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and should not be confused with the nearby municipal Karlsruhe Botanical Gardens.
Covering approximately 10 hectares, the garden serves as a hub for research and teaching in biology, with a core mission of preserving endangered plant species and functioning as a "Noah's Ark" for nearly extinct plants, including a nationally and internationally recognized collection of the European wild vine as part of Germany's national plant genetic resources program.
The garden houses a diverse collection of plant species from various climatic zones—tropical, subtropical, and desert—both in outdoor areas and an interesting glasshouse featuring cacti, carnivorous plants, and other exotic species. Open to the public free of charge every day except Saturdays, with opening hours from 8:00–16:00 (April–September) and 8:00–15:00 (October–March) on weekdays, plus Sunday hours from 10:00–16:00 or 10:00–14:00 depending on the season, the garden offers well-maintained paths with informative plant labels and a peaceful environment for strolls.
Since 2017, the Association of Friends and Supporters of the Botanical Garden of the KIT has supported the garden's commitment to science-public dialogue by organizing various events that introduce visitors to current research questions about the plant world.
