Ulm, Germany, Germany
The Botanical Garden of the University of Ulm (Botanischer Garten der Universität Ulm), also known as Botanischer Garten Ulm, is a large university botanical garden and arboretum located at Hans-Krebs-Weg in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, founded in 1981 and covering about 28 hectares, making it one of Germany's largest university gardens.
The garden is maintained by the University of Ulm as a scientific institution primarily for research and teaching, while also serving as an important link between the university and the public through workshops, public tours, exhibitions, and educational projects like the Green Classroom for school children.
The extensive outdoor area features diverse themed gardens including a medicinal garden (apothecary's garden), daylily garden, fern valley, rose garden, cottage garden, meadow orchard, three-field farm, and an arboretum with around 700 different tree species, along with a pond and colorful meadows. At the upper entrance are tropical greenhouses displaying a variety of tropical useful, medicinal, and ornamental plants from lowland and mountain rainforests, and the garden also maintains scientific plant collections in the greenhouse, outdoors, and herbarium.
The outdoor grounds are open daily from March 1 to October 15 (9:00–20:00) and October 16 to February 28 (9:00–16:30) with free entry, while the greenhouses are open Tuesday and Thursday 13:00–15:00 and on Sundays with entry fees of €2 for the garden and €3 for the greenhouses (free for children under 14 and students). The garden borders the university buildings on Oberen Eselsberg to the southeast and offers an interesting program of educational activities throughout the year.
