Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Germany
The Botanischer Garten Frankfurt am Main is a 7- to 8-hectare botanical garden and arboretum located at Siesmayerstraße 72 in Frankfurt, Germany, that serves as the small, free admission sibling to the nearby Palmengarten.
Founded in 1763-1774 through the Dr. Senckenbergische Stiftung established by physician Johann Christian Senckenberg, the garden was originally created as a "Hortus medicus" (medical garden) and has been maintained for nearly 300 years in his tradition. Formerly managed by Goethe University Frankfurt until 2011, the garden has been administered by the City of Frankfurt since 2012 and is now part of the municipal Palmengarten while maintaining free public access.
The garden features approximately 4,000-5,000 plant species, with special collections including 45 species of Rubus (blackberries) and indigenous plants of central Europe, arranged in various biotope displays showcasing herbs, grasses, flowers, perennials, fungi, lichens, shrubs, and trees in natural plant communities.
