The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, located in New York City, was officially opened in 1911 on 52 acres originally reserved by New York State in 1897.

It was developed with the help of the famous Olmsted Brothers firm, who laid out the original site plan, and features a Native Flora Garden designed to showcase wildflower beds arranged by plant family and evolutionary relationship.

Over the years, the garden has expanded to include the iconic Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden, completed in 1915 and among the first public Japanese gardens in the United States, and several other specialty gardens such as the Rock Garden, Lily Pool Terrace, Bonsai Collection, Shakespeare Garden, and Cranford Rose Garden. Its laboratory building and conservatory, designed by McKim, Mead & White and now a landmark, were dedicated in 1917.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden also pioneered educational initiatives like one of the first Children's Gardens and the Alice Recknagel Ireys Fragrance Garden for the visually impaired. Today, the garden is a nationally recognized botanical institution offering horticultural education, public programming, and conservation efforts, making it a cherished cultural and scientific resource in the city.​
