Brukenthal Summer Palace
Avrig, Romania, Romania
Brukenthal Summer Palace in Avrig, Romania, served as the late 18th-century summer residence of Samuel von Brukenthal, the Habsburg governor of Transylvania and a prominent art collector. Built around 1783 in late Baroque style and modeled after Vienna's Schönbrunn Palace on a much smaller scale, it features a main manor house with wings, expansive 15.5-hectare gardens dubbed the "Eden of Transylvania," orchards, and an animal farm for self-sufficiency. After nationalization under communism, where it functioned as a sanatorium, the palace has been restored since 2011 to preserve its original layout and now welcomes visitors to explore its historical grounds.
