Dacian Fortress of Tilişca
Tilișca, Romania, Romania
The Dacian Fortress of Tilișca, perched on Cățânaș Hill at 716 meters near Tilișca village in Sibiu County, Romania, dates back to the Hallstatt culture around 1200-700 BC and was fortified by Dacians from the 3rd century BC, peaking under Burebista around 100-50 BC. It served as a key center for crafting and minting silver coins for Dacian kings in Sarmizegetusa Regia, with terraces, workshops, and strengthened walls in murus dacicus style until Roman conquest destroyed it early in the 2nd century AD. Today, visitors can freely explore its ruins, including remnants of a workshop and 2000-year-old bricks, via a marked trail, blending ancient history with local legends of hidden gold.
