The Fortress of Slimnic (Stolzenburg), near Slimnic village in Sibiu County, Romania, was built in the 14th century on Burgbasch Hill as a strategic Saxon outpost to guard the Sibiu-Mediaș road, with its oldest feature being a Gothic chapel under a three-level bell tower. First documented in 1282 and expanded in the 15th century with robust brick walls amid Mongol threats and Turkish invasions, it housed an unfinished hall church that resembled an aqueduct due to repeated attacks halting construction. Severely damaged by conquests in 1529 and 1706, fires, and plagues that stopped 1717 repairs, it saw 1950s consolidations on walls and towers, leaving it today as an impressive ruin open to hikers.
