Bruneck Castle in Bruneck, Italy, was built around 1250 by Bruno von Kirchberg, the Prince Bishop of Brixen, to protect his estates in the Val Pusteria and to establish the town of Brunico.

The castle features a southern gate once accessed by a drawbridge and has been expanded and renovated over the centuries by various bishops, including notable frescoes and coats of arms inside. It served as a bishop’s residence until 1825 and later housed troops and a prison, leading to some deterioration.

Since 2011, the castle has housed the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa, dedicated to the culture of mountain peoples worldwide, installed by the famous alpinist Reinhold Messner. The castle stands prominently on a hill above the town, offering panoramic views and rich historical and cultural experiences.
