Buddha Dordenma is a massive bronze and gold statue of Shakyamuni Buddha located on a hill in Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park overlooking Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Standing about 51.5 meters (169 feet) tall, it is one of the largest sitting Buddha statues in the world.

The statue houses over 125,000 smaller Buddha statues inside, made of bronze and gilded in gold, symbolizing peace, happiness, and protection for Bhutan and the world. Construction started in 2006 and was completed in 2015 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Bhutan’s fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and fulfill ancient prophecies.

Visitors to the site enjoy sweeping panoramic views of Thimphu valley and the surrounding Himalayan landscape, making it a significant cultural and spiritual landmark deeply connected to Bhutanese Buddhist traditions.
