Kurjey Lhakhang
Bumthang, Bumthang District, Bhutan
Kurjey Lhakhang is one of Bhutan’s most sacred Buddhist monasteries, located in the Bumthang Valley of Bumthang District.
The temple is closely associated with Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), who is credited with bringing Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century. According to tradition, he meditated in a cave at the site, leaving an imprint of his body on a rock, which gives the monastery its name, meaning “body imprint temple.”
The complex consists of several temples surrounded by ancient cypress trees and beautiful mountain scenery, creating a peaceful spiritual atmosphere. As an important pilgrimage destination and a center of Bhutanese religious heritage, Kurjey Lhakhang attracts both devotees and visitors interested in the country’s history, culture, and Buddhism.
