Trashigang Dzong
Trashigang, Trashigang District, Bhutan
Trashigang Dzong, known as the “Fortress of the Auspicious Hill,” is one of the largest and most important fortress-monasteries in Bhutan.
Built in 1659, it stands dramatically on a ridge overlooking the confluence of the Drangme Chhu and Gamri Chhu rivers in Trashigang, serving for centuries as the administrative and religious center of eastern Bhutan. The dzong played a key role in defending the region and extending central Bhutanese authority into the east.
Today, it continues to house government offices and a monastic community and is famous for its impressive traditional architecture, breathtaking location, and the annual Trashigang Tshechu festival, which attracts many pilgrims and visitors.
