The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens in Buffalo, New York, opened in 1900 and is widely recognized for its stunning tri-domed Victorian conservatory designed by Lord & Burnham, inspired by glasshouses in England like the Crystal Palace.

It sits within South Park, part of a park system designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, and covers 12 acres with both indoor and outdoor botanical collections. The gardens feature thousands of rare plants including tropical, desert, and temperate species, and are enhanced by formal outdoor gardens such as an arboretum, pinetum, shrub and bog gardens, and a rose garden.

The conservatory was once the third largest public greenhouse in the United States and remains a National Historic Landmark. Over its long history, the gardens have been a center for horticultural education, public enjoyment, and conservation, surviving natural challenges and renovations while hosting seasonal flower shows and community events that attract visitors year-round.

It is supported by a nonprofit organization with public funding, member contributions, and volunteer involvement, continuing to inspire with its blend of historic architecture and living plant collections.​
