Burg Adelebsen - Flecken Adelebsen
Adelebsen, Germany, Germany
Burg Adelebsen is a well-preserved medieval castle in Flecken Adelebsen, Lower Saxony, Germany, built in the 13th century on a sandstone hill overlooking the Schwülme Valley about 15 km west of Göttingen.
Originally constructed by the Lords of Wichbike around 1234, it features a massive 38.75-meter-high pentagonal bergfried tower—one of the region's mightiest—and evolved through Renaissance and Baroque additions after destruction in the Thirty Years' War.
Seat of the von Adelebsen family for 800 years until 1957, it now belongs to the Stiftung Burg Adelebsen foundation, blending fortress remnants, terraced gardens, and a park, with the lower bailey privately occupied.
