Burg Arnsberg
Kipfenberg, Germany, Germany
Burg Arnsberg is a historic hilltop castle ruin overlooking the village of Arnsberg, a district of Kipfenberg in Bavaria, Germany. Perched on a rocky dolomite outcrop high above the Altmühl Valley, it offers impressive panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and nature park. The castle was built by the noble Lords of Arnsberg during the Middle Ages and changed hands several times over the centuries, including ownership by Bavarian dukes and the Prince-Bishopric of Eichstätt. It later served as a hunting and summer residence before gradually falling into ruin through demolition, stone removal, and natural deterioration. Today, visitors can freely explore the castle ruins, including the remains of its fortifications and tower, while enjoying one of the most scenic viewpoints in the Altmühl Valley. Parts of the former outer castle are privately owned and associated with a hotel.
