Burg Biedenkopf
Germany, Germany
Burg Biedenkopf, also known today as Schloss Biedenkopf or Landgrafenschloss Biedenkopf, is a medieval hilltop castle in the town of Biedenkopf in central Hesse, Germany, sitting prominently on the 386‑meter‑high Schlossberg above the old town center and the Lahn valley.
It was first built around the late 12th century by the Lords of Hohenfels, later passing to the Thuringian and then the Hessian landgraves, and serving for centuries as a strategic border fortress and administrative seat in the western part of the Hessian hinterland.
The complex was repeatedly expanded, especially in the 14th and 15th centuries, and today it is one of the few largely intact stone castles in that region, housing a local museum and remaining a key landmark and cultural venue for the town.
