Burg Bischofstein
Münstermaifeld, Germany, Germany
Burg Bischofstein is a castle on the Moselle River opposite the village of Burgen, near Münstermaifeld in the Rhineland‑Palatinate part of the Mosel region, Germany.
It sits on a steep, 75‑meter‑high slate spur above the river and the nearby railway station, giving it a strong strategic position from which to control access routes into the Baybach valley and the Mosel crossing toward Münstermaifeld.
The present structure was probably first built around 1270 as a stronghold for the Archbishops of Trier, later rebuilt in the 1930s after being destroyed in 1689, and has since served as a youth hostel and school retreat center, especially for the Fichte Gymnasium in Krefeld.
