Burg Bosselstein
Idar-Oberstein, Germany, Germany
Burg Bosselstein is a 12th-century ruined hill castle overlooking Idar-Oberstein in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, built by the Lords of Stein (Oberstein) on the rugged Kirchenfelsen above the Felsenkirche rock church at 309 meters elevation.
First documented in 1197, it featured a round bergfried tower foundation, palace remnants, and a circular defensive wall, serving as the family's ancestral stronghold tied to local legends of sibling rivalry that inspired the nearby church's construction.
Abandoned after 1600, it fell into ruin and passed to state ownership in 1945, now accessible via a steep path from the B41 road with panoramic Nahe Valley views alongside the later Schloss Oberstein.
