Burg Braunsberg
Anhausen, Germany, Germany
Burg Braunsberg near Anhausen in Rhinland-Palatinate, Germany, is a medieval hilltop ruin built around 1200 by Bruno I. von Isenburg—later known as Herr zu Braunsberg—on a rocky spur above the Aubachtal valley to link his Westerwald estates around Dierdorf with lands in the Neuwied Basin.
Emerging from the fragmented County of Isenburg after a 1175 inheritance split among brothers, this polygonal residential tower castle served as the seat of the Isenburg-Braunsberg line, with the site originally acquired from Rommersdorf Abbey around 1197 in exchange for a Langendorf vineyard.
Owned today by the princely Wied family and hosting a forestry station, the preserved ruin symbolizes early noble territorial consolidation in the Engersgau region.
