Burg Breitenbach
Wetterzeube, Germany, Germany
Burg Breitenbach is a medieval castle ruin on elevated terrain in Breitenbach, part of Wetterzeube in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, originating around 1100 from a 10th-11th century royal court first referenced in a forged 1138 charter as a Naumburg bishop's property.
Built by the Breitenbuch family as their seat from the mid-12th to late 13th century, it featured ring walls, gate towers, and residential structures before passing to the Naumburg diocese, briefly the Meissen margraves, then Stolberg counts around 1306, suffering destruction by fire in 1315 conflicts.
Adjacent 14th-century Kempe residential tower remains survive, with the site now accessible via wooded hiking paths showcasing typical German medieval stone defenses amid the Elster Valley.
