Burg Desenberg near Warburg, Germany, crowns a striking 343.6-meter volcanic cone overlooking the fertile Warburger Börde, with fortifications dating back to 766 and the main castle likely founded in the 11th century by the Counts of Northeim.

Passing through Henry the Lion to the von Schwalenberg family and later the von Spiegel lords, it endured sieges including failed assaults by Hesse in 1464 before Bishop Simon III of Paderborn stormed and largely destroyed it in 1470 during regional conflicts.

Abandoned by the mid-16th century, its hilltop ruins feature a fortified ring wall with buttresses, two semicircular towers, and remnants of a bergfried tower now serving as an observation point reachable by a short hiking trail for panoramic views.
