Burg Dohna
Dohna, Germany, Germany
Burg Dohna in Dohna, Germany, is a significant medieval double castle ruin on a rocky spur above the Müglitz River, first mentioned around 1040 and built in the early 10th century as a Slavic stronghold before becoming the center of an imperially immediate burgraviate under the Lords of Dohna from the 12th century.
It controlled vital trade routes between Saxony and Bohemia, housed a prominent magistrate's court until 1572, and was expanded into an imposing inner and outer fortress, but was destroyed in 1402 during the Dohna Feud by Meissen forces, leading to its decline after passing to the Wettins.
In the Romantic era, a partial rebuild attempt by Heinrich Ludwig von Dohna in 1803 added a round tower, though unfinished due to the Napoleonic Wars, and today the site is a protected archaeological landmark with visible walls, ditches, and a shooting range built from its stones.
